An Informal History

Back in the mid-70’s, women and men were gifted with the birth control pill. It was revolutionary, in that for the first time, women were in control of their own ability to decide whether and when to have children. That was the key to the Sexual Revolution, fueled by the ideals and principles of Feminism. Young people were empowering themselves by saying YES to Civil Rights, NO to war, and YES to sexual freedom and the right to choose. It was an equally invigorating and very controversial era. In response, a group of Stanford students started the “CIC: Contraceptive Information Center.” Read more…

Outreaches

The SHPRC offers outreach programs for residences and student groups. Topics include birth control methods, pregnancy alternatives, sexually transmitted infections, and more!  Visit our outreach page for more information.

Become a counselor!

To become a counselor, you must complete the training course, Education 193S: Peer Counseling on Comprehensive Sexual Health (1 unit). The class is taught on Tuesday 7-9pm, on the second floor of Vaden. To register for the class, go to the first class meeting (which meets on the second week of the quarter) and sign up with the instructors. Check Axess for the most up to date course information. At some point either before or concurrent with your first quarter staffing at the center, you must also take Education 193A: Bridge Peer Counseling (2 units). Email Lizz (eifay@stanford.edu) or Eric(erictran@stanford.edu) if you have any questions about becoming a counselor.
