About

The SHPRC is committed to providing sexual health resources and peer counseling to Stanford students, and to promoting safe, healthy relationships across campus. We’re entirely student-run and funded, and all of our supplies and information are either free or really cheap. Unfortunately, we only accept cash. An Informal History

In the mid-1970s, a group of Stanford students started the “Contraceptive Information Center,” located in the Fire Truck House.  Soon, the group moved to Cowell, with a branch at the Fire Truck House, called “Ye Olde Safer Sex Shoppe.”  In the mid-1990s, in response to a need to educate students about and protect students from AIDS, broadened the mission from contraception to the full range of Sexual Health and voila – became the SHPRC. Outreaches

The SHPRC offers outreach programs for residences and student groups. Topics include birth control methods, pregnancy alternatives, sexually transmitted infections, and more!  Contact us at SHPRCoutreach@lists.stanford.edu to learn more or to plan an outreach for your group or program.

Become a counselor!

To become a counselor, you must complete the training course, EDUC 193S: Peer Counseling on Comprehensive Sexual Health (1 unit). The class is taught on Tuesday 7-9pm (fall, winter, and spring quarters), on the second floor of Vaden. To register for the class, go to the first class meeting and sign up with the instructors. Check Axess for the most up to date course information. At some point either before or concurrent with your first quarter staffing at the center, you must also take EDUC 193A: Listen Up! Core Peer Counseling Skills (2 units). Check out our contact page to find the person to get in touch with if you have any questions about becoming a counselor.
